If you tell lies in order to escape punishment, it means that you will treat an innocent person detestably. Lying to protect a friend from an undeserved [chastisement] punishment, implies that you will have many unjust criticisms passed on your conduct, but you will rise above them and enjoy fame. To hear peoples telling lies or lying, means that they are trying to deceive you.
